Employment opportunity: Six-month contract, Full-time 

Reports: Director, Strategic Communications   

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

We’re seeking a Communications Specialist to join the Communications Team on a six-month assignment. This position plays a critical role in the communications planning, media, social media, and writing activities in support of our partnership with the Future Skills Centre (FSC).

About the Role

Some of the things you will do every day:

  • Work effectively with colleagues and teammates across the organization to strategically position research and findings with key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with partner organization in the development, integration, and delivery of The Conference Board of Canada’s communications plan in support or our work.
  • Position and write supporting materials such as media releases, social media content, scripts, media talking points, commentaries, presentations and web content.
  • Commitment to producing high quality work and demonstrating professional values in all aspects of work and interactions with colleagues, partners and stakeholders.

About You

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field of study.
  • Minimum of four years of professional experience in a corporate communications role.
  • Fluency in English and French both oral and written is a requirement.
  • Advanced writing skills:  media releases, op eds, blogs, scripts, presentations and speeches.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage tight deadlines and thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Have a solid grasp of alternative and social media.
  • Professional and responsible in dealing with senior level decision makers in all sectors.
  • Proven track record of success as an effective, articulate communicator with both internal and external stakeholders including media outreach and story pitching, web communications and with social media communication channels.
  • Strong analytical and organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong technical skills in an MS Office environment including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organization, administrative skills, attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and equally comfortable contributing in a team environment.
  • A proven ability to handle many different tasks, set priorities and to work under the pressure of deadlines.
